NSU to Host Charity Golf Tournament to Fight Human Trafficking

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. — When celebrity golfers hit the fairways at the Ft. Lauderdale County Club on May 7, they will be sinking birdies to combat human trafficking.

That’s because they are participating in NSU’s 6th annual Fore the Kids: Saving Lives charity golf tournament that will raise money to battle human trafficking, a global problem requiring local action.

Inconceivable, yet sadly true, in Florida people are being bought, sold, and smuggled. Trapped in lives of misery, they are often beaten, starved, and forced to work as prostitutes or take grueling jobs as migrant, domestic, restaurant, or factory workers with little or no pay.

Between 14,500 and 17,500 people are trafficking to the United States each year for the purposes of prostitution. Of those, 50 percent became victims at ages 12 to 14. Florida is one of the top four destinations in the United States for human trafficking.

To register for the golf tournament, which is organized by NSU’s Institute for Child Health Policy, please call Eli Saleeby at 954-262-1942 or visit https://www.nova.edu/webforms/forekids/.
