NSU Grad Overcomes Challenges of Hurricane Maria

Krystal Rodriguez was enrolled at NSU’s College of Pharmacy at the Puerto Rico campus when Hurricane Maria struck the island. Following the storm, the campus was temporarily closed until the facility was proven safe. Once it reopened, Krystal was determined to finish all of her PharmD requirements so she could graduate on schedule. She did this while she was in the last few months of her pregnancy and, at the same time, she stepped up to help gather supplies and provide moral support for fellow NSU students and their families. She didn’t have electricity restored at home until January.

Krystal and her family – including her now six-month old baby, Andres – came to NSU’s main campus so she could participate in the College of Pharmacy commencement ceremony. Before walking across the stage, she sat down with reporters to share the obstacles she has overcome to reach this important milestone.
