FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The International Game Fish Association (IGFA) will host an International Billfish Symposium at its headquarters in Dania Beach, Florida during August 2015. The event will be co-chaired by Jason Schratwieser, Conservation Director for IGFA, and David Kerstetter, Ph.D., director of the Fisheries Research Laboratory at Nova Southeastern University’s Oceanographic Center.

Following the success of past events, this symposium is designed to provide a forum for international research efforts on the conservation and biology of sailfish, marlin, spearfish, and swordfish. These highly migratory species support numerous recreational and commercial fisheries worldwide, with annual economic impacts estimated in the billions of U.S. dollars.

Symposium proceedings will be published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

Dania Beach is located just south of Fort Lauderdale, with easy access to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood and Miami International Airports, major highways, and a wide range of pelagic fishing and beachside activities.
