Senior Student-Athlete One of Just 10 Women in Nation Honored
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University (NSU) women’s basketball player Alexis Murphy has been chosen as one of just a select few student-athletes nationwide to be a part of the prestigious 2016 Allstate WBCA and NABC Good Works Teams®.
The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and Allstate Insurance Company selected 20 members to the team, 10 male and 10 female, recognizing players at all levels of college basketball that have dedicated themselves to bettering the lives of others through giving back to their communities. In all, 103 WBCA nominees and the 154 NABC nominees were submitted by sports information directors and college basketball coaches across the country.
Of the 10 female basketball players selected on Tuesday, five come from NCAA Division I, while Murphy is one of only five combined honorees from NCAA Divisions II, III and the NAIA. She was nominated, as one of 103 due to her success on and off the court.
The Carlisle, Ohio native is a four-year guard for NSU’s nationally-ranked women’s basketball team. In each of her three completed seasons with the squad, she has helped lead the Sharks to the program’s first three South Region titles, and subsequent Elite Eight appearances, in addition to two Sunshine State Conference regular season and two postseason conference championships. She ranks in the women’s top 10 all-time in 3-pointers made, assists and games played.
