FORT LAUDERDALE/DAVIE, FLA. – As part of its ongoing effort to foster global education, research and international cooperation, Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) have signed several memorandums of understanding with Latin America universities attending the 15th annual Latin American and Caribbean Consortium of Engineering Institutions (LACCEI) International Multi-Conference for Engineering, Education, and Technology, that took place in Boca Raton, FL last week.

The universities are: Universidad Nacional Del Este (Ciudad del Este, Paraguay); Universidad de Pamplona (Pamplona, Colombia); Universitaria Agustiniana – AUNIAGUSTINIANA (Bogota, Colombia); and Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria (Managua, Nicaragua).

“These agreements come at a time when the CEC is really looking at innovative ways to grow our international student recruitment efforts and to strengthen our footprint abroad,” said Yong X. Tao, Ph.D. and P.E., dean of NSU’s College of Engineering and Computing department. “The signing of these agreements marks the first step towards initiatives that will facilitate opportunities for not only our students, but also faculty members to conduct scholarly activities, such as seminars and workshops, and to conduct research in areas of mutual interest with our colleagues from Latin America.”

Dr. Anthony J. DeNapoli, NSU’s Associate Dean of International Affairs, added “NSU is committed to research that improves our communities and is looking forward to further developing collaboration with universities abroad.” He also emphasized that “collaboration across borders will broaden our spectrum of research topics and enrich the experience for faculty members as well as students of both NSU and partner universities around the globe.”

The universities selected are all highly competitive, research-oriented institutions.

Key representatives for these universities visited NSU’s Fort Lauderdale last week, meeting with Dr. Tao and Dr. DeNapoli to sign the agreements.
