Nova Southeastern University to Host Events For Criminal Justice Week 2016

FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – The Department of Justice and Human Services in Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences will be hosting several events related to Criminal Justice Week 2016. The free events will take place on NSU’s Fort Lauderdale-Davie Campus, 3301 College Ave., and include:

 

Monday, March 14th

  • Panel discussion on “Drugs in America,” 5-7 p.m. in the Don Taft University Center (in “the pit,”) and features:
    • Dr. John Carroll, moderator (NSU faculty);
    • Dr. Jim Hall (NSU epidemiologist);     
    • Captain Dave Erdman, Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue;
    • Nucleus Shelton, President, NSU Black Student Union
    • Gary Killiam, Ph.D., NSU Alumni
    • Honorable Michele Towbin Singer, Broward County Drug Court Judge
    • Thomas Roberts, Immigration and Customs Enforcement

Tuesday, March 15th

  • Criminal Justice Job Fair, noon – 3 p.m. in the Don Taft University Center
    • Job Fair participants: Broward Sheriff’s Office; Davie, Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood police departments; U.S. Marines; U.S. Navy; U.S. Army; Immigration and Customs Enforcement
    • A mobile crime lab, aviation unit, emergency response team, SWAT Team; police K-9 officers (bloodhounds;) marine unit, fire rescue and other emergency response assets on display outside the UC

Wednesday, March 16th

  • Movie Night, 5-7 p.m. at the Flight Deck Back Yard (Don Taft University Center) – Moderated by Marcelo Castro, Ph.D., NSU Faculty
    • Two movies by Vice: Stoned Kids and The Real Walter White

NSU’s offers a variety of educational programs in the area of criminal justice and national security. Those include, but are not limited to:

  • Dual admission, Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in criminal justice – for freshman and transfer students, this provides comprehensive overviews of the criminal justice system and insight into how the various components interact.
  • Certificate and Master’s in National Security Affairs – provides student with theoretical, research, and applied skills in the emerging academic field of national security affairs. Students in this program will build a core understanding of critical issues informing the field of national security today, including the assessment and analysis of the threat of terrorism in the US and beyond and the analysis of intelligence collection.
  • Ph.D. in Criminal Justice – The program prepares students through the core curriculum and allows for specialty training through various tracks. The Ph.D. in Criminal Justice opens opportunity in areas of research, academia, and management to those who are ready to advance as well as to individuals considering a career change.
