Awesome Story & Photo/Video Opportunity

WHO: More than 200 high school juniors and seniors from Miami-Dade County Public Schools, officials from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the National Security Agency, U.S. Department of Homeland Security and NSU’s College of Engineering and Computing

WHAT: Third annual Cybersecurity Day @ Nova Southeastern University (NSU)

WHERE: NSU’s Carl DeSantis Building, 3301 College Ave., Fort Lauderdale (Fort Lauderdale/Davie Campus)

WHEN: 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20

WHY: October is National Cybersecurity Month. Since 2013, NSU has been conducting “Cybersecurity Day @ NSU,” an annual outreach program that promotes awareness about some do’s and don’ts related to cybersecurity, as well as to promote interest in cybersecurity careers for students.

“Some of the greatest assets one can have are strong cybersecurity skills,” said Yair Levy, Ph.D., professor in NSU’s College of Engineering and Computing and founder of Cybersecurity Day @ NSU. “Without them, anyone can fall prey to fraud, identify theft, social engineering and cyber-crime.”

The day consists of several workshops – some presentations, some hands-on activities – all with the goal of getting today’s students excited about technology and providing a glimpse into the cybersecurity world while giving practical tips on how to stay safe in the cyber world. Some of the workshops include: Cybersecurity Issues Impacting Today’s Teens; Cyber Crime Prevention; and Enhancing your Cybersecurity Skills.

* This is an excellent photo opportunity – the high school students participating have been cleared to interact with media covering the event (photos and interviews.) *
