Nova Southeastern University Professor Provides Guidance and Tips for Paying Down Holiday Debt

Albert Williams, Ph.D.

FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – The holidays have come and gone. As the New Year begins and we all get back into the daily grind, there’s something ominous looming on the horizon – the bills from all that holiday spending.

While most people try to stick to a budget when buying gifts for friends and loved ones, unfortunately some of us go a bit beyond what we planned on spending. With the advent of online shopping, that can be easier to do as you may not realize how much you have bought – after all, sitting at home clicking a mouse is much different than walking through the mall with handfuls of shopping bags.

If you’re one of the millions who overspent this holiday, fear not! Nova Southeastern University (NSU) associate professor of finance and economics Albert Williams, Ph.D. is here to save the day!

Dr. Williams is in NSU’s H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship, and he has created an online video series called “Rock-n-Omics” where he provides tips and guidance in all things financial. His latest edition is on Paying Down Debt, which fits perfectly now that the holidays are over and the bill paying season is about to begin.

You can view his latest video on NSU’s Public Affairs YouTube page (

Williams teaches courses in managerial economics, finance, ethics and statistics. Previously, he was the chief executive officer of an agricultural marketing company in Belize. He managed the marketing of rice, both domestically and regionally and also assisted in the marketing of sugar, potatoes, and red kidney beans. He has traveled throughout the Caribbean and Central America to promote products for Belize. During this period, he also managed a rice processing plant and was responsible for the finances of the company. His diverse career has resulted in his position as a sought-after lecturer on the topics of finance, international trade, business ethics, economics, and business statistics for students, public officers, and private sector groups.
