Nova Southeastern University Mourns the Passing of University Supporter and Community Activist

Joe Millsaps, NSU Board of Trustee Member and Chair of NSU’s Center for Psychological Studies, Passes over Memorial Day Weekend

FT. LAUDERDALE (DAVIE), FLA- It is with deep sadness that the passing of Nova Southeastern University Board of Trustee member Joe Millsaps is announced. Mr. Millsaps passed over the Memorial Day weekend after attending the Indianapolis 500 in Indiana.

He has been a vital supporter of the NSU community, serving as a Trustee and as chair of the Advisory Board for NSU’s Center for Psychological Studies, helping to build the Center into an internationally renowned school.

“NSU has been honored to have Joe Millsaps as an advocate for Nova Southeastern University and the South Florida community at large,” said NSU Chancellor, Ray Ferrero, Jr. “He was an enthusiastic supporter of our University, providing guidance and direction for many years. His vision and spirit will be greatly missed. Our condolences go out to his family.”

A community activist and leader, Mr. Millsaps was also well known for his support of the military community, having served in the U.S. Army as a commissioned lieutenant in the infantry. Founder and CEO of Broward Navy Days, his organization was responsible for and organized the annual Fleet Week celebration which brought sailors and naval ships to Fort Lauderdale every spring.

The funeral service is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Chapel in Fort Lauderdale, 2401 West Cypress Creek Road. A reception will immediately follow.
