Nova Southeastern University Hosts the 2015 Florida Arcade & Pinball Exposition
Annual celebration of pinball and classic videogames in South Florida continues
FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. –– Nova Southeastern University (NSU) will be hosting the 2015 Florida Arcade & Pinball Exposition February 20-22 at the Arena in the Don Taft University Center located on its main campus at 3301 College Avenue in Davie.
Approximately 250 games will be exhibited and “free to play;” which means the machines are all set to start a game using NO quarters, tokens, or game cards. With a modest daily admission fee of $20 per person, they simply walk up to a game and press the start button. The show prides itself never to charge a child an entry fee, so each daily admission includes one child 10-year old or younger.
“We are thrilled to be presenting this event at NSU. In the digital age that we live in today, it’s great to be able to revisit the pinball and video games that were such an important part of history and nostalgia for previous generations,” said Eric Ackerman, Ph.D., Dean and Associate Professor of the Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences at Nova Southeastern University.
Back in late 2004, after attending a series of pinball shows in northern parts of the country, South Florida coin-operated machine collectors and hobbyists Marcel Gonzalez and Charles Lyle decided to bring the first pinball show to the state of Florida.
Their grassroots effort succeeded, effectively linking together other local private collectors into bringing dozens of their machines to a selected venue and thus commencing the Florida Arcade & Pinball Exposition in December 2004. After a long hiatus, Mr. Gonzalez brought back the Florida Arcade & Pinball Exposition (now known as the “Florida APE”) in 2010 and since then it continues to be an annual celebration featuring a large assortment of coin-operated machines from yesteryear.
A large area with modern and classic console gaming stations will be incorporated in the show courtesy of one of the biggest Comic-cons in Florida; the “Florida Supercon,” and the only true arcade destination in South Florida: “Arcade Odyssey”.
