Nova Southeastern University Hosts Career Fair for People with Disabilities

FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE Fla. – Nova Southeastern University is hosting a unique job fair on Friday, Oct. 30 that will provide career opportunities for people with disabilities.

Those with disabilities will have a variety of companies to choose from at the 5th annual Connections Career Fair at Nova Southeastern University (NSU).

The job fair will feature up to 15 companies. This one-of-a-kind event caters exclusively to people with disabilities, said Howard Watson, executive director of the Broward Business Leadership Network (BBLN), which is running the event with NSU, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, United Way of Broward County and Work Force One.

Some employers at the job fair will include Nova Southeastern University, Ability Medical Supply, Broward County Schools, Florida Power and Light, Holy Cross Hospital, Jobing.com, Sun Trust Bank, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Workforce One, Manpower, among others.

Research shows that people with disabilities make excellent employees, although over 50% of people with disabilities are unemployed. The Connections Career Fair morning seminars are an excellent way to learn about programs that put people back to work. Learn more about Florida’s On the Job Training Program (OJT) where you can evaluate potential employees without spending a dime. Social Security Administration will pay a portion of a person’s benefits to an Employment Network provider; you can increase your bottom line. BBLN can help you with technical expertise in qualifying for and learning more about services that assist employers.

The Connections Career Fair will offer a wealth of information for employers as well as job opportunities for people with disabilities.

The event’s keynote speaker is Dr. Susanne Homant, President and CEO of the Able Trust. She will be announcing the “Look at my Abilities” Campaign. The “Look at my Ability” is a statewide initiative that has two purposes; to raise awareness of the value of hiring people with disabilities; and to bring awareness to and educate the public about the Florida Business Leadership Network.

Connections Career Fair will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at NSU’s Carl DeSantis Building, location on its main campus in Ft. Lauderdale-Davie. The actual job fair will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
