Ft. Lauderdale-Davie, FL. – Children across the region will get access to free health care on Sept. 12 during Nova Southeastern University’s annual health fair for kids.
Known as “A Day for Children,” the 8th annual health fair will feature free health care and education for children ages birth to 15 years. They will receive screenings for vision, medical, speech, behavior and dental, as well as physical and occupational therapy, all of which are provided by NSU’s Health Care Centers. Social services and other resources will be available through collaborations with NSU’s vast network of community partnerships to meet the behavioral needs of Broward County’s children.
“The health fair is a fun-filled day which focuses on free health care for children ages birth to 15 years. It includes screenings for vision, medical, speech, behavior and dental health as well as physical and occupational therapy,” said Ronnie Oller, event chairperson. “This year, we are honored to have a special guest, the Honorable Debbie Wasserman Schultz. In addition to the health screenings, there will be a variety of activities for children, including a bounce house, face painting, storybook characters, supervised sports activities, arts and crafts, games and food. This year will also feature free hair cuts for children, provided by Jig Saw; Rio Latin Impact by Liz & Kids, featuring a dance and fitness activity for kids; and a Teddy Bear Clinic sponsored by the Chris Everett Children’s Hospital and the Teddy Bear Society and.
The Davie Police and Fire Departments will provide free fingerprinting, ID cards and free safety and installation demonstrations of child car seats. Representatives from the Alvin Sherman Library will provide library cards for Broward County residents; the League of Hearing will be there with amplified phones; and the Epilepsy Foundation will provide free bicycle helmets as part of the daylong activities.
