Nova Southeastern University Honors Black History Month with Range of Inspiring and Entertaining Events

February Highlights Include African Art Exhibition, Free Genealogy Resources and Florida Film Premier of “My Nappy Roots: A Journey Through Black Hair-itage”

Public is invited to enjoy a variety of programs that will educate, inspire and engage

FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University (NSU) will honor Black History Month 2009 through a variety of activities including engaging art exhibitions and dance performances, award winning film screenings, dynamic speakers and compelling educational workshops and discussions.

Highlights of the month-long celebration include the grand opening reception and art exhibition, “Power Revealed”-African Presence, on February 4, featuring African Art from the collection of the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, Nova Southeastern University, and will be on display through March 20; Discover Your Roots, Discover Your World, on Sunday February 1, and 15, will provide the public with information and free access to genealogical resources; the Florida Film Premier of My Nappy Roots: A Journey through Black Hair-itage, featuring actors Kim Fields, Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Vivica A. Fox, will be held on February 7. Connect with the film’s director, Regina Kimbell, fans and experts for a community discussion on the historical, professional and personal accounts of the black hair journey.

Additionally, for the second consecutive year, a blog site is available to encourage ongoing discussion around the various NSU Black History events. The blog address is http://blogs.library.nova.edu/blackhistory.
