Translating Ideas to Commercialization
Speaker: H. Thomas Temple, M.D.

Description: Scientific researchers all around the globe are working tirelessly to develop the next treatments for cancer, cardiac disease and countless other health conditions. For these discoveries to benefit patients, it is essential that they make it to the marketplace, which can be an arduous and confusing process for even the brightest minds. The process of taking a discovery from the bench to the bedside is called translational research and it requires a well-funded infrastructure that supports clinical trials, marketing, legal protections and other integral steps. A physician, inventor and executive, H. Thomas Temple, M.D., will address the elements required to make a discovery profitable and beneficial to humanity.

Marriage of Medicine and Technology: Preserving the Human Element in Medicine in an Era of Rising Technology

Description: In this era of dynamic health care technology, the preservation, maintenance and nurturing of the human element in medical care is vital as we strive to improve community and global health. Promoting and fostering synergy between digital tools and the practice of medicine is imperative and this process needs further study and refinement. Dr. Haffizulla will outline an internist’s view of benefits of the promotion of this marriage along with challenges that need solutions in order for our health care workforce to meet the demands of community and global health.
