Nova Southeastern University Continues Its Pledge to Assist Veterans in Receiving a College Education

FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla.— Nova Southeastern University (NSU) continues to be a proud supporter of the Veterans Administration’s (VA) Yellow Ribbon Program, through which eligible veterans attend the University at significantly reduced cost.

At the urging of NSU President Ray Ferrero, Jr., a retired U.S. Marine captain, NSU joined the Yellow Ribbon Program, earlier this year. Through the Yellow Ribbon program, a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, colleges and universities voluntarily enter into an agreement with the VA to offer reduced tuition and fees to veterans who served in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Under the program, NSU is offering 529 scholarships for a total institution match of $1,263,000. To date, NSU has awarded 40 Yellow Ribbon scholarships and will continue to do so throughout the year.

“Nova Southeastern University is proud to participate in the Yellow Ribbon campaign,” said Ferrero. “We are committed to assisting veterans and their family members with opportunities to receive a quality education.” To welcome new student-veterans and in recognition of Veterans Day, NSU is hosting a Yellow Ribbon Reception on November 10th. The event will honor our Yellow Ribbon Scholars and the NSU veteran community of students, faculty and staff.

About The NSU Yellow Ribbon Campaign – Eligible veterans who enroll at NSU in undergraduate programs may receive up to $3,500 annually in scholarship funds, which will be matched 100 percent by the VA, totaling up to $7,000 annually in scholarship funds. Graduate (master’s and doctoral) and first-professional students may receive up to $2,000 annually in scholarship funds, again, being matched 100 percent by the VA, totaling up to $4,000 annually in scholarship funds. Scholarships are limited and will be awarded on a first-come first-served basis.
