Dry eyes are irritating whether you wear contact lenses or not. A new clinic at Nova Southeastern University is tackling an irritating condition that affects the eyes. The newly opened Dry Eye Care Center will be under the supervisions of Dr. Chandra Mickles, an optometrist and associate professor at NSU’s College of Optometry. The Center will provide services for patients suffering from what is known as dry eye.

Center for Advanced Eye Care and Specialty Testing 1 (1)In a recent interview with the Sun Sentinel Dr. Mickles said, “About half of the patients that I see, have signs of the dry eye and we see the damage occurring but they don’t know that they have the dry eye.” As for why it happens, Dr. Mickles said there are so many possible causes that treatment of the condition requires an individualistic approach. Whatever the cause, Dr. Mickles recommends individuals should be evaluated as soon as they start noticing burning, irritated eyes or some sort of foreign-body sensation.

The new Dry Eye Care Center is located at The Eye Care Institute’s Davie location at 3200 S. University Drive, 2nd floor. Most insurances are accepted and a sliding pay scale is available to those in need.
