Mother’s Day At Its Best
Mother’s Day weekend started out right for South Florida mom Karen Perez when she crossed the stage with her son, Richard Perez–both received a Bachelor of Science in paralegal studies—at Nova Southeastern University’s undergraduate graduation ceremony last Friday afternoon.
While they call themselves “late bloomers” at 46 and 27 years old, respectively, the duo has taken its studies very seriously. Since they are both NSU employees, Karen (19 years at NSU) and Richard (10 years) often met on campus to cram in study time over lunch.
As a single parent, Karen has been determined through the years to do her best for her son and a college degree was important to both of them.
What’s next? Richard hopes to pursue a law degree at NSU’s Shepard Broad Law Center. Mom is considering following in his footsteps.
