More than $2 Million Raised for NSU’s Terry Stiles School of Real Estate Development

Naming Ceremony to Occur March 14

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FORT LAUDERDALE/DAVIE, Fla. – When visionary real estate developer and Broward County business leader Terry Stiles passed away on Sept. 11 last year, friends and colleagues sought a way to honor his legacy. Led by longtime friend and business partner Steven J. Halmos, C.E.O. of Halmos Holdings and an NSU Trustee, a campaign was developed to raise  $2 million to ensure that the academic program and master’s degree in real estate development at Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business & Entrepreneurship would forever bear his name.

In just three months, the campaign surpassed its goal. Gifts toward naming the Terry Stiles School of Real Estate Development came from 90 donors, ranging from $20 to $250,000. The official naming ceremony will occur on campus on Wednesday, March 14 at 10:00 a.m.

“Terry wasn’t simply a good guy. He was an icon,” said Halmos. “His fingerprints are all over our community.  Terry would probably be surprised by all the fuss being made over him, but I think he’s probably looking down and smiling.”

“Stiles was passionate about creating a first-class real estate Master’s program at NSU,” added Harry Posin, president of Label & Company Developments, Inc. and an advisory board member for NSU’s real estate development school.

“The program simply would not exist without Terry’s determination and generosity,” said Posin. “It provides the next generation of real estate professionals the education, relationships and resources to be the future leaders in our industry.  I believe the most appropriate way to honor his career is the Terry Stiles School of Real Estate Development along with the endowment fund that will create scholarships for worthy students.”

Stiles was not only instrumental in developing the curriculum for the real estate program, he also served as a member of the Master of Science in Real Estate Development (MSRED) Advisory Board, and regularly participated in program related events, classes, site tours, competitions and guest lectures.  He also provided ongoing guidance and financial support to the program.

“Like its namesake Terry Stiles, NSU’s M.S. in Real Estate Development program builds industry leaders by preparing graduates with the multidisciplinary knowledge and tools to succeed in real estate development, investment, finance, management and marketing,” said J. Preston Jones, dean of NSU’s H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business & Entrepreneurship.

Graduates learn core knowledge and advanced application skills to locate and analyze property, determine the physical, market, legal and political parameters and create viable financial, development and management structures.  The program knits a close relationship between students and industry leaders at regional and national levels, through executive mentorships, participation in professional programs and networking.

The naming ceremony of the Terry Stiles School of Real Estate Development will be held on campus in the Fellows Way Courtyard. The Courtyard is located between the Carl DeSantis Building, home to the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business & Entrepreneurship, and the Miniaci Performing Arts Center at 3301 College Ave., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33314.   For questions or to attend the event, contact the Office of Special Events at specialevents@nova.edu or 954-262-2105.
