Legal Incubator program to benefit NSU law graduates while providing services to veterans and the community

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – The Shepard Broad College of Law will launch a Legal Incubator program, a new opportunity for Nova Southeastern University (NSU) law graduates to start their own solo, small firm or non-profit practices while serving military veterans and lower income individuals.

The innovative program, operating in coordination with the college’s existing Veterans Law Clinic, will allow NSU law graduates to attain valuable legal and business experience while launching a practice and provide the new attorneys the affordable infrastructure and basic training to get established.

The integration of the NSU Law Incubator with the full-service Veteran’s Clinic provides a truly unique resource for both our graduates and the communities they serve,” said College of Law Dean Jon M. Garon. This model combines cutting-edge, post-graduate education essential for new lawyers while greatly expanding our service to the Veteran community.”

Garon said the Legal Incubator program will provide new attorneys with mentoring, training and support from experienced attorneys, alumni and other professionals in the legal community while including collaboration with peers, clients and the community. Benefits such as office sharing will help make it affordable.

Florida has a large veteran population requiring assistance from legal counsel to successfully navigate legal issues following the end of their public service. The veteran community also has a significant lower income population that cannot afford full-price legal services.

“The Legal Incubator and the Veteran’s Clinic are just two of the more recent innovations at NSU Law which emphasize a long-standing commitment to hands-on clinical education and professional preparedness,” added Dean Garon.

Attorneys interested in participating in the Legal Incubator will be selected from among qualified applicants. Applicants must be willing to commit to one year participation. The deadline to apply for the program is Feb. 1, 2016. For more information on the Legal Incubator or the application requirements, visit the Incubator webpage.
