High School Students from Across the Nation to Compete in Case Competition at NSU’s Business School
Annual Leaders of Tomorrow® Case Competition to be held June 25-26
FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – Teams of minority high school students representing 23 cities from around the country will compete for thousands of dollars in scholarships at the Leaders of Tomorrow® Case Competition being held June 25-26 at Nova Southeastern University’s H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship.
In the ninth annual competition, mostly at-risk minority high school students will analyze an MBA level business case and present recommendations in front of judges from corporate America and academia, including NSU business professors. Students are required to present a detailed strategy to capitalize on the opportunity that includes financial projections, implementation plans, timetables, exploration of risks, and industry impact. The teams are evaluated based on their understanding of the marketplace, feasibility and effectiveness of their recommendations, creativity, and the quality of their presentation.
The top three winning teams will be awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships. Since its inception in 2001, the competition has awarded more than $65,000 to students.
The competition is presented by ExxonMobil and the National Black MBA Foundation, with major sponsorship provided by NSU and Nationwide. Competing students are aggressively coached in analysis, forecasting, decision-making, research, financial modeling, and marketing by members of the National Black MBA Association.
The teams will practice in the Carl DeSantis Building on NSU’s main campus on Friday, June 25. The first round of presentations will be held on Saturday, June 26, from 8 a.m. to noon in the Carl DeSantis Building. The final round of presentations will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Epstein Center for the Arts at the University School on NSU’s main campus.
The Leaders of Tomorrow® Case Competition was launched by the National Black MBA Association to prove that high school students who might be considered at-risk could perform at an advanced level if given the training and resources and if the bar for excellence was set high. Previous universities to host the competition include the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.
