Graduating dad gets a surprise from Iraq (Miami Herald)

Thousands of miles and several time zones couldn’t keep U.S. Army contractor Tobias Barbir from being at one of the most important events in his father’s life.

On Aug. 29, his dad, Johann Barbir of Dania Beach, graduated from Nova Southeastern University with a degree in nursing. Though he was unable to be there in person, Barbir made his presence known through modern technology, joining him live via a special satellite feed from Iraq during an award ceremony the night before graduation.
