Gear Up for St. Patrick’s Day & Celebrate Irish Heritage for FREE at NSU’s Library – March 13 to 20

FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – March is Irish-American Heritage Month, so come out and celebrate at Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) 4th Annual Irish Film Festival. The festival runs March 13-19 and includes additional heritage events.

NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library and Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences are partnering to present the FREE festival, which will feature the following films:

  • Eden on Sunday, March 13 from 2 to 4 p.m.
A story of friendship and love that blooms between a lonely world-class chef and a waitress whose family life is less than ideal.
  • Kisses on Wednesday, March 16 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Kylie lives with five siblings and an overworked mother. Next door, Dylan is growing up with an abusive father and the memory of his runaway brother. One day, after a violent altercation with his father, Dylan and Kylie flee. Together they make their way to the magical lights of downtown Dublin to search for Dylan’s brother and the hope of a new life.
  • The Yellow Bittern: The Life and Times of Liam Clancy
    on Saturday, March 19 from 4 to 6 p.m.
A new feature documentary from Alan Gilsenan, The Yellow Bittern: The Life and Times of Liam Clancy is a revealing and surprising portrait of the last surviving member of The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem – the man that Bob Dylan called “just the best ballad singer I’d ever heard in my whole life.”

The movie screenings will take place in the Carl DeSantis Building’s Knight Auditorium on NSU’s main campus, at 3301 College Ave. in Davie. For directions and parking information, please visit http://www.nova.edu/library/about/parking.html.

Additional FREE Irish Heritage activities taking place at NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library include:

  • Miss Meagan’s Storytime Fun: Smiley O’Riley’s Irish Stories and Songs
on Thursday, March 17 from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. (all ages with caregiver).
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with an Irish-American themed storytime with stories and songs about luck, limericks and leprechauns as told by Smiley O’Riley!
  • Culture Vultures Present: The Great Hunger on Sunday, March 20 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Marie Smith is known in South Florida as “the Irish famine lady.” Her passion, the Irish Hunger of 1845-50, has led her to champion human rights for Northern Ireland as well as generate an understanding of The Great Hunger and its effect on American and world history.
