Free Healthcare for Children!

NSU hosts a day of free medical, dental, vision screenings and much more

Ft. Lauderdale-Davie, FL. – Nova Southeastern University (NSU) will host its seventh annual “A Day for Children” health fair on Sunday, September 13 from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., on the grounds in front of the Alvin Sherman Library on NSU’s main campus in Davie. The fair is free and open to the public.

“The health fair is a fun-filled day which focuses on free health care for children ages birth to 15 years. It includes screenings for medical, speech, behavior and dental health as well as physical and occupational therapy,” said Ronnie Oller, event chairperson. “This year, we are honored to have a special guest, the Honorable Debbie Wasserman Schultz. She has always been a strong advocate for children and she has dedicated her public life to working on behalf of the people of Southern Florida.”

All health services are provided through NSU’s Health Care Centers. The fair showcases the university’s clinical programs and will feature more than 75 booths representing different disciplines of the university, community service centers and organizations from Broward County. All booths will be staffed by individuals available to answer questions regarding children’s health related issues or services.

In addition to the health screenings and social services, there will be a variety of activities for children, including a bounce house, face painting, storybook characters, supervised sports activities, arts and crafts, games and food.

The Davie Police and Fire Departments will provide fingerprinting and demonstrations on the installation of child car seats; they will be joined by Crime Stoppers of Broward County and Safe Kids. Representatives from the Alvin Sherman Library will provide library cards for Broward County residents; the League of Hearing will be there with amplified hearing devices; and the Epilepsy Foundation will provide free bicycle helmets as part of the daylong activities.

The event draws more than 7000 participants each year and is sponsored by the NSU Health Care Centers, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, Broward Health, Chris Everett’s Children’s Hospital, Memorial Health Care System, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, WPBT, Kid Vision, KISS FM, Broward Family Life, the Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center, Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Hispanic Unity, Florida Kid Care and the Boys and Girls Club.

No registration is necessary. For more information call 954-NSU-CARE (954-678-2273).
