Fourth Annual “Motion for the Ocean” 5K Walk/Run
Annual Event to Benefit Local At-Risk Youth
** ATTENTION PHOTO & ASSIGNMENT EDITORS **
Excellent Photo & Story Opportunity
WHO: Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography Student Government Association, AMIkids and local runners
WHAT: Fourth Annual Motion for the Ocean 5K Run/Walk
WHERE: NSU’s Halmos College Ocean Campus, 8000 N. Ocean Dr. (located within John U. Lloyd State Park)
WHEN: 7 a.m. registration; 8 a.m. race start, Sunday, April 10
WHY: The Motion for the Ocean is a fundraiser and community-building event organized and hosted by NSU’s Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography’s Student Government Association (SGA) and student volunteers. The cost for participation in the race is $15 for early registration or $20 the day of the event.
All proceeds from the Motion for the Ocean 5k Run/Walk entry fees will be donated to AMIkids, a nationally recognized non-profit organization that works with at risk youth, giving them an opportunity to transform into responsible young adults. They offer young adults a promising future through positive and motivating programs that inspire learning, leadership and personal growth. For those who would like to help but cannot make the event, additional donations can be made through NSU’s Halmos College SGA.
Those interested in participating in this year’s run should register ONLINE (http://www.active.com/dania-beach-fl/running/distance-running-races/motion-for-the-ocean-2016). For questions and more information, you can reach event organizers:
- Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/4th-Annual-NSU-Oceanographic-Center-Motion-for-the-Ocean-5k-runwalk-265864236881477/?fref=ts)
- Via phone at 954-262-3660.
Participants will enjoy the gorgeous backdrop of John U. Lloyd State Park, the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. Part of the race will be on the sand, part on the dirt path along the beach – so runners should be prepared to run in both. And be sure to dress appropriately – hats, sunblock, etc. – as you’ll be “on the beach!”
Each runner will receive a t-shirt to commemorate their participation and achievement. Food and drinks will be provided at the end of the race and a small award ceremony will be held to recognize the top runners.
