Former Congressman John Kasich to Deliver Address at Nova Southeastern University’s Graduate Commencement

FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, FL. – Named one of the “100 people for the 21st Century” by Newsweek magazine, former Congressman John Kasich will deliver the keynote address during the 2009 graduate commencement ceremony for Nova Southeastern University (NSU) on Saturday, June 20 at 11:00 a.m.

The commencement ceremony which will be held at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fl., will highlight the achievements of students from NSU’s graduate divisions-Center for Psychological Studies, Criminal Justice Institute, School of Computer & Information Sciences, School of Humanities & Social Sciences, Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, Huizenga School of Business & Entrepreneurship and the Oceanographic Center.

Kasich was elected to the Ohio State Senate at the age of 26 and to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982 at the age of 30 and played major roles in a variety of groundbreaking achievements during his 18 years in Congress. As Chairman of the House Budget Committee, Kasich was the chief architect of the plan that balanced the federal budget providing at that time, the largest government surplus our country has ever seen.

Kasich is the author of two New York Times best sellers, including his poignant tome Courage Is Contagious. His most recent, Stand for Something: The Battle for America’s Soul is a call for Americans to reset their moral compasses, and has been praised by the diverse likes of Bono, Mike Krzyzewski and George Stephanopoulos. Through his written word, speech, and actions, Kasich relays how everyday people are capable of creating historic change across the American landscape. As the host of FOX News’ Heartland with John Kasich and guest host of The O’Reilly Factor, Kasich takes a weekly look at the stories from around the world that affect the average citizen. By showing audiences how their leaders and their fellow Americans are taking action and getting results, Kasich leaves them empowered and inspired to affect positive change in their own communities.
