New Expanded Curriculum at AutoNation Academy of Art and Design
Children and Adult Classes fill need for art education cut from school budgets
Fort Lauderdale, FL – August 11, 2011 – AutoNation Academy of Art and Design (formerly the Studio School) at the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, announces open registration now through September 14 for adults as well as for students in grades 1 through 12. Curriculum-based studio art classes begin the week of September 19 and meet for a 3-hour class once per week during the 10-week session. Applicants can choose from a broad selection of classes in drawing, painting, printmaking, digital photography, graphic design, watercolor, illustration, screen printing, lithography, ceramics, sculpture, and other disciplines.
“As we move through the 21st century, the need for arts education has never been more important as a learning resource,” said Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale Deputy Director Anthony Lauro. “Since the mid-19th century, museum schools throughout the country have supplemented the art education needs of their communities. With the drastic cuts inflicted on the arts in our school system, now more than ever our community needs this resource.”
The AutoNation Academy of Art and Design provides progressive, curriculum-based art courses for students grades 1-12 and adults. Our classes are taught by established professional artists and educators. AutoNation Academy of Art and Design values quality, creativity, and accomplishment and endeavors to provide a learning environment in which the highest level of technical instruction is matched by a broad exploration of materials and thought.
Classes for grades 1-12 are offered on Saturday mornings and Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. Adult classes are available Monday through Saturday, including mornings, afternoons and evenings. Scholarships are available for students in grades 1-12.
Registration applications, schedules and fees are available online at www.moafl.org on the Art Academy page. Applicants can also email AutoNation Academy of Art and Design at education1@moafl.org or call the Education Department at 954.262.0239.
