Nova Southeastern University’s Commencement Season Begins Thursday, May 11

FORT LAUDERDALE/DAVIE, Fla. – It’s that time of year again – time for students to walk across the stage, flip their tassels and transition from being students to being alumni!DSC_0618

Nova Southeastern University (NSU) will host its 2017 Commencement ceremonies on its Fort Lauderdale/Davie campus in the Rick Case Arena at the Don Taft University Center (3301 College Ave., Fort Lauderdale).

The first celebration of academic achievement begins Thursday, May 11 for students at NSU’s Shepard Broad College of Law. The last ceremony will be held Friday, Aug. 18 for NSU’s College of Nursing and  College of Health Care Sciences graduate students. Ceremony participants represent students from NSU’s Fort Lauderdale/Davie campus, regional campuses, and online. NSU will award baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral degrees to students in a wide range of fields, including business, counseling, computer and information sciences, education, osteopathic medicine, optometry, pharmacy, dentistry, various other health professions, law, marine sciences, psychology, human services, and other social sciences.  Approximately 7,000 students will receive their degrees and move on to continue their journey to realize their potential.

Over the next few weeks, students, alumni, faculty, staff, and guests will hear commencement addresses from inspirational speakers* such as:

  • Florida Supreme Court Justice James E.C. Perry (Thursday, May 11)
  • Mr. Daniel Dawes, J.D., NSU alumnus, author, and health policy director who played a role in the development of the Affordable Care Act (Friday, May 12, 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.)
  • Celeste M. Philip, M.D., M.P.H., Florida State Surgeon General and Secretary of Health (Friday, May 19, 9:30 a.m.)
  • Michael E. Kasper, M.D., F.A.C.R.O., Radiation Oncologist and Co-Director of the Lynn Cancer Institute of Boca Raton Regional Hospital (Friday, May 19, 2:30 p.m.)
  • Beverly Raphael-Altman, President and Chief Executive Officer at RCC Associates, Inc. (Friday, June 9, 9:30 a.m.)
  • Jordan Zimmerman, Founder, Chairperson, and Architect of Zimmerman Advertising (Friday, June 9, 2:30 p.m.)
  • Judge Ginger Lerner-Wren, Presiding County Court Judge of the Misdemeanor Mental Health Court of the 17th Judicial Circuit in Broward County, Florida (Friday, June 16, 9:30 a.m.)
  • David Lawrence Jr., Chair of the Children’s Movement of Florida, Former Publisher of the Miami Herald (Friday, June 16, 2:30p.m.)
  • Israeli Ambassador Daniel Ayalon (Friday August 18)

Tickets are not required, but seating is limited and large groups of guests wishing to sit together should arrive early.

All NSU Commencement ceremonies will also be live-streamed online in real time. Visit the NSU Commencement home page and click on the “Commencement Ceremony Live” icon for information and access.

NSU’s Don Taft University Center provides disabled-accessible parking spaces on each level of the public parking garage. Golf carts will be in operation before and after the ceremony to assist with transportation of special-needs guests from the parking garage to the Rick Case Arena. Commencement guests using wheelchairs can enter and exit the Rick Case Arena through either the north or east lobbies of the venue.
