Dr. Hanbury Featured in Sun-Sentinel’s South Florida 100
100 Influential Leaders Discuss Important Issues Afffecting the Community
FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – As part of its South Florida 100, the Sun-Sentinel newspaper featured NSU’s President and CEO Dr. George Hanbury, who discussed an issue affecting the entire South Florida community. Dr. Hanbury’s item follows:
Once again South Florida is in the headlines because of drugs. Escalating deaths, medical emergencies, and delusionary behavior in our streets associated with the drug “Flakka” is international news. This potent synthetic stimulant from China is our latest challenge. Yet rather than dividing our community, it is bringing us together. Nova Southeastern University is proud to be working with Broward County Government, the United Way’s Commission on Substance Abuse, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, hospital emergency department physicians, and more than 100 local leaders in engaging a Flakka Community Action Plan to educate and heal.
