Dateline Health Selected as a Winner in the 35th Annual Telly Awards

FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – The Telly Awards has named Dateline Health as a People’s Telly Silver winner in the 35^th Annual Telly Awards for its piece titled “Joint Preservation and Pain Management.”  This is Dateline Health’s fourth Telly Award, having received two in 2008 and another in 2012. This year’s Telly Awards received nearly 12,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries.

The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.

The winning episode featured Host Fred Lippman, R.Ph., Ed.D., chancellor of Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Health Professions Division, interviewing Francis M. McCormick, M.D., and W. Porter McRoberts, M.D., from Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale.

McCormick, an orthopedic specialist, discussed joint preservation by removing cartilage and growing new cartilage in the lab to replace existing cartilage rather than replace the entire joint; and McRoberts, an interventional spine and pain management specialist explained the harmful effects of opioids and new treatment options for mitigating pain.

“As a community-focused university, we are committed to providing a forum for experts from a variety of subject matters to share their expertise and advice with South Florida residents,” said NSU President George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D. “Chancellor Lippman and the Dateline Health team have worked tirelessly to share health care issues and tips for the past 16 years and I commend them on earning their fourth Telly Award.”

“Having recorded nearly 400 episodes, it is very rewarding to be able to provide useful information that helps educate people in our community about their health,” said Lippman. “This Telly Award is a great opportunity for us to thank the many experts who have donated their time and expertise over the past several years and helped us get to where we are today.”

Dateline Health is a 30-minute service program dedicated to promoting the community’s overall health and well-being covering a wide range of contemporary health care issues through interviews with health care experts, researchers, and policy makers.

Airing on Broward Education Communication Network (BECON), carried by COMCAST and AT&T U-verse cable providers, Direct TV and Dish Network satellite and over air signals seven days a week throughout the tri-county area reaching 4.3 million households in the South Florida community.

For its 35^th season, The Telly Awards once again joined forces with YouTube to give the public the power to view and rate videos submitted as part of the People’s Telly Awards. In addition to recognition from the Silver Telly Council, the judging panel that selects the Telly Awards winners, the Internet community helps decide the People’s Telly Awards winners.

A prestigious judging panel of more than 500 accomplished industry professionals, each a past winner of a Silver Telly and a member of The Silver Telly Council, judged the competition, upholding the historical standard of excellence that Telly represents. The Silver Council evaluated entries to recognize distinction in creative work – entries do not compete against each other – rather entries are judged against a high standard of merit. Less than 10 percent of entries are chosen as winners of the Silver Telly, the highest honor.  Approximately 25 percent of entries are chosen as winners of the Bronze Telly.
