Circle of Friends of NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library Names New Additions to its Board of Directors
FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – The Circle of Friends of Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center has announced several new additions to its board of directors.
The Circle of Friends is a diverse group of individuals who share the common goal of furthering the intellectual resources of the Alvin Sherman Library. The board includes prominent Fort Lauderdale-area leaders such as new additions:
- Diane Brewer, Vice President and Private Banker at Gibraltar Private Bank and Trust, Fort Lauderdale
- Carlos Angel Leo, Partner, PL&P Advertising, Fort Lauderdale
- Kristen M. Lynch, Esquire, Partner of Ruden, McClosky, Boca Raton
- Laurence Alan Maurer, President, New River Realty Corporation, Fort Lauderdale
Current board members also include: President Anita Paoli, Vice President Adolfo J. Cotilla, Jr., Treasurer Michael Greenberg, Secretary Sandy Tate, Lydia M. Acosta, Catalina M. Avalos, Ray Ballotta, Joan Baxt, Elaine F. Blattner, Charles ‘Ed’ Davis, Jr., Arthur M. Drujak, Raquel Ferrero, Marianne Ferro, Luis A. Muriel, Sheldon S. Polish, Greg Sandefur, and Michelle Tuggle.
The group’s Advisory Board is comprised of past Circle of Friends presidents including: Founding President Gail Kaplan, Mary Riedel, Silvia Flores, and immediate Past President Glenda Abbate.
As a result of an innovative agreement between NSU and the Broward County Board of County Commissioners, the Alvin Sherman Library is a unique joint-use facility. This means that anyone who lives or works in Broward County is eligible to have a library card and to access the five-story Library, Research, and Information Technology Center.
The Alvin Sherman Library is Florida’s largest library building at 325,000 square feet, and also serves NSU students, faculty, and staff members. It gives patrons access to more than 250 electronic databases, and houses the Chihuly Glass Garden and other world-class artwork.
Together, the Circle of Friends is dedicated to:
- Promoting the development and achievements of the Alvin Sherman Library
- Encouraging greater visibility and interaction between the Library and the University, its host community, alumni, and friends
- Enriching the cultural life of the University and its larger community through funding of special exhibits, programs, and collections
- Supporting the goals of the Library through volunteer activities and programs
- Assisting in developing resources to benefit the Library and its departments and programs
- Serving as a liaison with the private sector and building strong relationships between the Library, corporations, and foundations
