Center for Autism and Related Disabilities Raises Autism Awareness with 2nd Annual Autumn Moonlight Gala

Florida Representative Ari Porth and former Representative Susan Goldstein to be recognized for their commitment to & support of autism awareness

FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla.—To help raise autism awareness, funds and recognize local community leaders, the UM-NSU CARD (University of Miami – Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities) will host its Second Annual “Autumn Moonlight” Cocktail Reception on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Grande Oaks Golf Club in Davie.

“Autumn Moonlight” will honor two Broward community leaders who have dedicated their careers to helping people with autism: Susan Goldstein, former Florida Representative and mother of a child with autism and Florida Representative Ari Porth, a dedicated advocate for individuals with autism whose commitment lead to the passing of the Florida Autism Insurance Bill in 2008.

The signature event is also the major fundraiser for the UM-NSU CARD, based at the center’s Clinic for Speech, Language and Communication located at NSU’s Fischler School of Education and Human Services, at 6100 Griffin Road in Davie.

Proceeds from “Autumn Moonlight” will fund free programs, services and research initiatives for the more than 5,000 individuals with autism, their families, and the professionals who serve them in Broward County.

The gala evening will feature:

  • An open bar courtesy of Bacardi Liquor, with hors d’oeuvres and sweet nibbles
  • A Silent Auction featuring unique items and vacation packages
  • A Live Auction, with fabulous items including a one of a kind painting by artist
Haley Moss, an individual living with autism, and the most sought after item of the evening: 2 Tickets to 2010 Super Bowl XLVI in Miami, Florida!

Live jazz by Kawan DeBose will keep the festive atmosphere going, and have the crowd dancing the night away. “Autumn Moonlight” Honorary Chairs include Jeff and Rachel Ireland, Miami Dolphins Head Coach Tony Sparano and his wife Jeanette, who are all delighted to support this valuable community institution.

“The Center for Autism provides so much guidance to affected Broward individuals and families. It is critical to raise money in order to continue funding valuable services for this growing community. Additionally, we are delighted to honor Mr. Porth and Ms. Goldstein, who have been devoted CARD and community supporters for so many years,” said Ysela Heim, “Autumn Moonlight” Chair and UM-NSU CARD Constituency Board Member.

Tax-deductible sponsorships are available from $500 to $2,500 and individual tickets are now available for $125 per person. For more information, please call 305-284-9126 or visit www.umcard.org.
