Boomers & Beyond

A free Nova Southeastern University health fair for adults 40 and up on April 1

FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE Fla. —- South Florida baby boomers and older adults will have access to free health tests at a Nova Southeastern University (NSU) health fair on Sunday, April 1.

The 7th annual Boomers & Beyond, A Day For Health And Wellness will provide a variety of health tests including peripheral artery health, Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, bone density, foot health, memory, medication, mental health, and skin health.

Targeting adults ages 40 and up, the free event will be held at NSU’s Health Professions Division located at 3200 S. University Drive in Davie. It will run between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. The theme of this year’s Boomers & Beyond is “A Healthier YOU Starts Today!”

There will also be wellness information and health education (including diabetes prevention and management, neurology, exercise information and demonstration, and nutrition and healthy eating), to help people learn about prevention and disease management. NSU faculty experts will provide information on how to live healthier lives and engage in wellness activities.

Aging and health information will also be provided by organizations such as 2-1-1 Broward, AARP Florida, Alzheimer’s Association of SE Florida, Broward Health Community Health Services, Broward County Elderly & Veteran Services, Lighthouse of Broward, Memorial Regional Hospital South, NSU Health Care Centers, other NSU institutes, and many other organizations.

Florida Telecommunication Relay, Inc., will be giving away free FTRI phones (for the hearing impaired) for those who qualify, and the NSU Lifelong Learning Institute will present its virtual classroom where one can watch expert lectures on a variety of topics such as arts and others. Refreshments and entertainment will be available throughout the afternoon.
