After Another School Shooting, Safety Experts Frustrated by Lack of Change

It has happened again – another school shooting. And now Sante Fe High School in Texas joins Sandy Hook Elementary, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and Columbine High School in a club no one wants to be a member of.

In a recent interview, Scott Poland, Ed. D., professor at NSU’s College of Psychology and a nationally recognized expert in school shootings, school violence and suicide prevention, stressed that outsized attention given to suspects and their motives is part of the problem. Media attention should be taken off the perpetrators and there should be a focus on prevention, the victims and survivors.
