NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) will again host the CAHSS Intellectual Conversations on Thursday, March 15, 2018. The series topic this academic year is “Resistance.”  This next Intellectual Conversation will feature Kandy Lopez-Moreno, M.F.A., faculty in the Department of Performing and Visual Arts (DPVA) in CAHSS. Her conversation is entitled, “The Art of Resistance.”

As humanity and cultures evolve, transform, and resist, so do artists and their works. This multimedia presentation will explore how artworks and artists play a large role in the political and social transformations of cultures, society, and perspective. The conversation will start with the ninja turtles of the Renaissance, travel to the romantic and im/expressionists artists and take us all the way through the Los-Angeles-based artist Ginger and his infamous naked Trump sculpture. Artists have not only been resistant and resilient throughout our existence, but they have also challenged the idea of “art” itself like Courbet, Duchamp, Picasso, Eva Hesse, and Damien Hirst to name a few.

The event will take place from 12:00-1:00pm on Thursday, March 15, 2018 in DeSantis, Room #5026. It is free and open to the public.
