CASHSS’ MFT Club Raises Money and Support for Hurricane Survivors

The MFT Club in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) has been active in supporting the numerous hurricane survivors in the Caribbean, including in Dominica, Puerto Rico, Turks and Caicos, and the Virgin Islands. The MFT Club collaborated with the Family Therapy M.S. alumni working in those areas and raised funds. They gave away bracelets they created which read: “MFT Unite-Standing Together Through the Storm.” The efforts of the MFT Club was showcased at the AAMFT Annual Conference in Atlanta.portunity to collaborate with professors, practicing therapists, internal and external organizations in order to develop in the areas of professionalism and leadership. Within the organization connections are made through educational workshops, community service initiatives, and social events.

Started in 2011, the MFT Club is open to master’s students in the Department of Family Therapy (DFT). The mission of the club is to provide students with resources for personal and professional growth in the field. Graduate students are given the opportunity to collaborate with professors, practicing therapists, internal and external organizations to develop in the areas of professionalism and leadership. Within the organization, connections are made through educational workshops, community service initiatives, and social events.

According to Anne Rambo, Ph.D., professor and Director of the M.S. Program in Family Therapy, this is one of a variety of initiatives of the MFT Club. Regarding the master’s program, Rambo also indicated that, “…MS in MFT graduates continue to pass the national licensing exam at rates well above the national average.”
