Youth Advocate, Business Leader Wes Moore to Speak at Convocation Ceremony, Aug. 22

To celebrate the new academic year, the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences will host the 2013 Undergraduate Convocation ceremony at NSU, featuring a keynote talk by youth advocate,

Wes Moore

Wes Mooreformer Army officer, and bestselling author Wes Moore. The event is open to new NSU undergraduate students and their families.

Undergraduate Convocation

Thursday, Aug. 22
9:00–10:30 a.m.
Arena at the Don Taft University Center

 About the Speaker

A troubled child brought up in Baltimore, Wes Moore eventually landed in a Pennsylvania military school—a move, he says, changed his life. In his best-selling book, The Other Wes Moore, Moore details the stories of two men with the same name from the same town, but with two vastly different fates. He argues that support systems—dedicated networks of families, mentors, teachers, friends, and colleagues—have the most profound and lasting impact on one’s life.

Part of NSU’s Orientation for incoming students, Convocation will also include a welcome by NSU President George Hanbury and an introduction to the 2013–2014 academic theme, “Good and Evil.” This theme will influence undergraduate course topics, presentations, and events throughout the year.

For more information about Convocation, contact the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Office of the Dean at (954) 262-8236.
