Women’s Golf Wins Regional, Advances to National Championship

The No. 1 nationally ranked Nova Southeastern University women’s golf program won the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Super Regional Two held May 3-5 at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla.

Top-seeded NSU (309-291-312-912) held on for victory, defeating Sunshine State Conference rival Florida Southern (302-311-302-915) by three strokes. NSU which led by 13 strokes heading into the final round of play, was led by sophomore Sandra Changkija, who earned the individual title by four stokes. Changkija (73-69-73-215, -1) entered the day tied for the individual lead with FSC’s Heather Burgner but shot a third round low score of 73 to wrap up the victory while Burgner had a 77.

Sophomore Taylor Collins also had an impressive third round, carding a 74 to finish play in fourth place among all individuals. Collins (77-74-74-225) was followed by junior Maria Garcia-Austt, who finished in a tie for 15th place (80-72-81-233). Nicole Whitmore placed in 23rd (81-76-84-241) while Fredrika Hakansson came in 34th (79-82-86-247).

Rollins College (319-297-302-918) finished the regional in third place. NSU, Florida Southern and Rollins will advance to the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Finals May 13-16 at the University of Findlay (Ohio).
