Volleyball’s Dana Holger Joins 1,000-Kill Club
The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team made history yet again, recently adding Dana Holger (Sr., Lino Lakes, Minn.) to the 1,000-kill club. Holger is the second Shark to reach the milestone this season adding to NSU’s elite 10-member group. She reaches the 1,000 kill plateau just short of a month after fellow teammate Sydney Cook (Sr., Miami, Fla.) reached the milestone in the Sharks’ 3-2 win over Barry. Currently, Holger has 1,071 career kills which ranks sixth in program history. She is just 70 away from passing NSU Hall of Fame member Sherri Waddell for third place all-time.
Holger has emerged as the NSU’s most dangerous attacker so far this season, leading the team with 282 kills. She is averaging over 3.5 kills per set, which currently ranks third among all Sunshine State Conference hitters. She set her career high of 22 kills in last month’s 3-2 victory against Florida Tech and has matched that total three times since, including the Sharks back-to-back 3-2 wins over Union and Lynn in the last week. In the team’s second meeting this season against Lynn, she also set career highs in solo blocks (4) and total blocks (7).
Holger and Cook are the second group of teammates to join the club, following Melinda Gorman, Emily Carle, and Christina Chubb, who reached 1,000 kills as seniors in 2008. That was also the last year a player has surpassed 1,000 kills before Holger and Cook did it this season.
