Vice President for Information Services and University Librarian Retires

Lydia M. AcostaDuring the past 8 years, Lydia M. Acosta has represented the NSU Alvin Sherman Library as Vice President for Information Services and University Librarian.  As of January 6, 2017 she will be retiring from the Library to start a new chapter in her life with her husband, Miguel.

During her tenure, the Alvin Sherman Library has placed at the top rankings of NSU’s student satisfaction surveys, taken the lead in providing late night studying for students, increased access to full-text databases and electronic books, expanded library instruction for students, and initiated an institutional repository.  Additionally, with the assistance of the Circle of Friends, a collaborative study room was added to the Alvin Sherman Library and a forthcoming digital media laboratory will soon be in place.  This has also allowed the Library to improve learning resources for our patrons, as well as purchase wonderful items for the Public Library Services. Jim Hutchens, senior executive director and associate university librarian, will be assuming the position of Interim Vice President for Information Services and University Librarian.

Lydia Acosta has made an indelible mark on this library and the community and we wish her well!
