Three CAHSS Students are Named Quell Foundation Bridge-the-Gap Scholars

Quell Scholars pic 2018-1

The Department of Family Therapy (DFT), in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) is pleased to announce the Quell Foundation Bridge-the-Gap Scholars for fall, 2018:  Boglarka Varga, Rita Cebuc, and Brittany Dakota Chabot. All three students are second year master’s students in DFT. According to Quell Foundation founder Kevin Lynch, the Foundation aims to erase the stigma of mental illness and thus reduce the number of suicides, overdoses and incarcerations of individuals diagnosed with a mental illness. Scholarships are offered to select Family Therapy master’s students in an effort to increase the numbers of trained mental health professionals. The Quell Foundation also supports an ongoing research and clinical project that provides equine assisted mental health services to at-risk boys, under the direction of Shelley Green, Ph.D., professor in DFT.

Boglarka Varga is a second-year master’s student in DFT. As much passion as she has for people in general and substance abuse treatment specifically, she also has an indescribable love for animals. Growing up in Hungary —known to be a horse nation— she grew to adore these wonderful creatures. Varga notes that she appreciates having the benefit of learning about Equine Assisted Family Therapy at an advanced level as a Quell scholar, and hopes to incorporate this knowledge into her future practice.

Rita Cebuc is a native of Romania, raised in Transylvania in a culturally diverse family (Romanian and Hungarian). She has lived in 4 different countries and speaks 3 languages. Cebuc is eager to become a Marriage and Family Therapist and is grateful for the opportunity provided by the Quell Foundation to further her understanding of Equine Assisted Family Therapy.  Her professional goals include helping people maintain their mental health, their balanced life and valued sense of self.

Brittany Dakota Chabot is originally from Connecticut and enjoys adventuring in the outdoors. She is currently an intern at Broward Outreach Center working with the homeless population and volunteers within the student ministry at her church, Calvary Lighthouse United. Dakota would like to thank the Quell Foundation for this amazing scholarship opportunity.
