Thousands Attend NSU’s A Day for Children Health Fair

For the eighth consecutive year, NSU hosted the popular health fair, A Day for Children, which provides free screenings for young children through 15 years of age.

During the day NSU’s Health Care Centers provide screenings for vision, medical, speech, behavior and dental as well as physical and occupational therapy. Social services and other resources needed to meet the behavioral needs of Broward County’s children are also made available through the Health Fair’s community partnerships.

In addition to the health screenings, there were a variety of free activities for children, including a bounce house, haircuts, face paintings, storybook characters, supervised sports activities, arts and crafts, games and plenty of food booths.

This year’s event featured a new attraction: appearances by the world famous Kratt brothers, a pair of zoologists who travel the world introducing children to animals through their “creature adventures.” Chris and Martin Kratt held two standing-room-only shows in the Miniaci Performing Arts Center.

The Davie Police and Fire Departments provided fingerprinting and demonstrations on how to properly install children’s car seats; Crime Stoppers of Broward County and Safe Kids provide free finger printing and IDs for all children.

Attendance at A Day for Children continues to increase each year drawing more than 7,000 visitors to campus annually.
