UNIVERSITY-WIDE

Nova Southeastern University was featured numerous times throughout the October issue of Florida Trend.   NSU Chancellor, Ray Ferrero Jr. was mentioned in an article detailing the CEO Council’s efforts helping companies relocate or expand in the US market.   George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D, President and CEO of Nova Southeastern University was quoted in the article “Higher Ed Heeds a Higher Calling”.    H. HCA and NSU seek to Build Teaching Hospital.  The announcement was picked up by several media outlets including WPLG Local 10, The Sun Sentinel, and The Miami Herald (9/23/13 and 9/24/13). NSU continues to receive coverage on $3.9 million Title V Cooperative Development Grant  award from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant will be used to assist minority students pursuing science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) related programs and computer science and computer information systems (CS/CIS). News of the award was carried again recently (9-4-13) by the ABC TV affiliate WHTM ABC TV (Harrisburg, PA).

Ronald J. Chenail, PhD., newly appointed associate provost for the division of applied interdisciplinary studies (DAIS) is listed in the Miami Herald’s movers section (9/2/13).

Continued coverage of newly appointed provost and executive vice president Ralph V. Rogers in South Florida Business Journal (9/15/13).

 

Coverage of NSU’s annual health fair for kids A Day For Children, was covered by several outlets including the Sun Sentinel and Miami Herald print and online editions (9-13-13); BrowardNetonline (9-7-13); WPLG Channel 10 (9-7-13) and Orlando Sentinel  and Knoxville Times (9-7-13).Internationally, information made its way to the Venezuela Star (Sidney, Australia); Zimbabwe Star ; Toronto Telegraph; and the India Gazette. In addition, Ronnie and Dr. Bob Oller appeared exclusively on the NBC 6 show South Florida Today. Coverage of the event ran several times throughout the day on NBC 6 (9-8-13) and the local news segments of WPLG Channel 10.

MAILMAN SEGAL CENTER FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

An article entitled “New college options for students with disabilities” appeared in Associated Press & Daytona Beach News Journal on (9/16/13).  The article discusses college students with Autism and how colleges and universities are making accommodations for them. http://bigstory.ap.org/article/new-college-options-students-disabilities

Nova Southeastern University’s Guy Harvey Research Institute and Oceanographic Center were highlighted in a feature article in  Florida Trend October 2013

Nova Southeastern University Oceanographic Center students, faculty and staff organized the 2013 International Coastal Cleanup. NSU College of Dental Medicine students were highlighted in The Gleaner, a Jamaican newspaper, about their participation in “Jamaica Smiles,” for which they provided dental care to children in the country (9/29/13)

COLLEGE OF Osteopathic MEDICINE

SHEPARD BROAD LAW CENTER

Robert Jarvis, J.D., professor of law was quoted in the Palm Beach Post (8-2-13) in the article ‘Attorney sues clients for checks’ and online ‘Attorney hopes to collect clients’ foreclosure compensation checks’ on the Florida Bar’s reaction to, and the public’s perception of lawyers who are suing clients to collect money sent to them through a national foreclosure settlement.

HUIZENGA BUSINESS SCHOOL

News of J. Preston Jones’D.B.A., appointment to dean of the Huizenga Business School was carried in both the print and online editions of the South Florida Business Journal in the article Nova Southeastern University names permanent business dean (9-20-13) and in the People on the Move section of the print edition (9-27-13).

 

 

Jack Pinkowski ,P.D., associate professor and founding director of NSU’s Institute of Government and Public Policy, penned an opinion piece Checks and Balances: The Government Shutdown in Perspective  which was carried by the Huffington Post (10-13).

Bob Prezioso, D.P.A., professor and chair of Management, comments continue to run in a Sun Sentinel (8-23-13) series on workplace diversity. In the article Workplace diversity: Finding commonality while respecting uniqueness of individual,.  Prezioso explains that a company stands a better chance of creating greater opportunities by capitalizing on the diversity of its workforce.

Joel Auerbach, M.B.A., and adjunct faculty at the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business & Entrepreneurship, published an article recently on the credit card resource site CardHub (10-4-13). Auerbach was asked to comment on the lessons learned during the 2007 downturn in our nation’s economy. He believes that part of the problem can be traced to the rapid downsizing in the labor force which began several years before. FARQUHAR COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

Charles Zelden, Ph.D., professor, spoke to the Palm Beach Post on the efforts of some to purge state rolls of “ineligible” voters. His comments appeared in the print edition article entitled ‘State to resume purge of voter rolls’ (9-9-13).

 

 

 

GRADUATE SCHOOL OF COMPUTER AND INFORMATION SCIENCES

News announcing GSCIS’s Techconnect networking event was carried by several outlets including but not limited to, the Miami Herald and Sun Sentinel’s print editions (8-26-13); and online at NBCMiami.com; CBS4Local.com; and Miami Herald.com.

 

 

Eric Ackerman, Ph.D., dean spoke to the Sun Sentinel (9-15-13) on understanding the pros and cons of purchasing new cells phones and the most opportune time to purchase. The article can be viewed at The 411 on new Apple iPhones on sale Friday.
