The Promethean Theatre Presents Dumb Show at NSU – Opens May 15
The Promethean Theatre (TPT), Nova Southeastern University’s professional theater company in residence, will present the southeastern premiere of Dumb Show, May 15–31, 2009, in the Mailman-Hollywood Building Auditorium. Show times are Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 3:00 p.m.
A play by Joe Penhall and directed by Margaret M. Ledford, Dumb Show is a searing account of tabloid journalism, the value of fame, and the overstepping of personal boundaries in the world of celebrity worship and gossip mongers. The cast features Carbonell Award-winning actor Gregg Weiner, David Sirois, and Deborah L. Sherman, TPT’s co-founder and producing artistic director.
London’s Daily Telegraph says Penhall’s Dumb Show “offers a mesmerizing, utterly persuasive account of a classic tabloid sting … a furious, black-comic satire on the bankrupt values of our tabloid culture.”
Tickets for Dumb Show are $5 for NSU students. Prices for the general public are $25 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $10 for students with valid ID. TPT’s production of Two Sisters and a Piano, presented at NSU in 2008, has earned the 33rd annual Carbonell Award for “Best Ensemble.” The Carbonell Awards are South Florida’s oldest and most prestigious arts honors.
