Students Win National Health Law Transaction Competition for a Second Time

The team of Sylvia Cobo, Carisa Champion Lippmann, and Melissa Aponte Martini, placed first as the overall champion at The L. Edward Bryant, Jr., National Health Law Transactional Competition at Loyola University School of Law in Chicago. Their memorandum came in second (two other schools had tied for first), and won second place in presentation.  Eighteen teams competed, from a total of 14 law schools, including teams from the number one, number two, and number four health law schools in the nation as ranked by U.S. News and World Report. This is the second consecutive year NSU Law has won this competition. The competition, held on March 21, 2014, required the team to advise the physician owners of a specialty hospital about their options for the future, taking into account complex legal and business considerations.

NSU Law has participated in this competition twice and has won overall champion both times. Professors of Law Kathy Cerminara and Donna Litman, along with Adjunct Professors Gerald Morris and Robert Nicholson; alumni Joanne Charles, Ira Coleman, Roy Harris, Matthew Horton, Jennifer Palacio, A. Shawn Murray, Jamaal Jones, Nicole Sauvola-LaMay, and Fred Segal; health care lawyers Gary Davis and Alex Eremia; and health care consultant Joe Cobo assisted in preparing the team for competition. These accomplishments would not have been possible without the help of our alumni and friends, who hold a strong connection to NSU Law by giving back and helping our students achieve success.
