A festive evening honored the best and brightest student-athletes from NSU at the 2010 NSU Athletics Banquet on Apr. 28 at the Arena in the Don Taft University Center.

Following dinner and the 2009-10 season video recap was the awards ceremony. Each of NSU’s 16 athletic teams recognized their respective team MVP, Coach’s Award winner, and seniors. Students from the Athletic Training program were also recognized for their efforts in the program.

Highlighting the event was the presentation of the 2010 NSU Female and Male Athlete of the Year awards. NSU junior golfer Sandra Changkija and senior softball player Lauren Lopez were honored as the NSU Co-Female Athletes of the Year, while junior men’s basketball player Alex Gynes was named NSU Male Athlete of the Year.

Additionally, men’s soccer defender Craig Heenighan and women’s track & field and cheerleader Kristina Labossiere were presented with the NSU Sportsmanship award.

The evening concluded with the presentation of the 2010 NSU Scholar-Athlete awards, which went to senior women’s tennis player Mary Crider and senior baseball player Eric McCans.
