SHSS Hosts 27th Residential Institute

The Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCAR) and the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies (DMS) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) recently hosted the 27th Residential Institute (RI) on NSU’s main campus. During RI, students enrolled in distance learning attend classes and advising sessions on campus; meet with faculty, staff, and their colleagues; and participate in workshops, presentations and social activities.
The keynote speaker was Mark Umbriet, Ph.D., and his address was entitled, “Restorative Justice in the Global Community: A Social Movement Loaded with Pitfalls & Opportunities.”
Umbriet is a professor of Social Work and the founder and director of the Center for Restorative Justice & Peacemaking in the School of Social Work at the University of Minnesota. He has been the Boden Chair Visiting Scholar and Visiting Professor at the Marquette University Law School as well as a consultant for the U.S. Department of Justice, National Institute of Corrections for more than 30 years.
