SHSS to Host Talk on ‘Positive Peacemaking in the Democratic Republic of the Congo,’ Oct. 4

The African Peace and Conflict Network (APCN) and the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCAR) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) will host a presentation entitled: “Positive Peacemaking in the Democratic Republic of the Congo,” as part of the events featured during the 23rd Residential Institute. Residential Institute is hosted by DCAR and the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies (DMS).

The featured presenter will be Bob Hill, the docent for CongoWarResourse.org. Hill will present conflict resolution and positive peacemaking techniques employed by NGOs active in the Congo. Efforts and success are measured by their effectiveness in restoring dignity and security to those impacted by war. To give context, the presentation utilizes videos that bring to focus issues confronting the peacemakers. War-rape, demobilization of militias and freeing child soldiers, the rescue of children from inhumane labor and the rescue of “child witches” are recoveries by the positive peacemakers shown in the videos.

The talk will be on Oct. 4 from 2:30 – 4 p.m. in the Maltz Building. The entire NSU community is invited. For further information, please contact Mark Davidheiser, Ph.D., the faculty coordinator of the APCN and the event. Davidheiser may be reached at 954-262-3064 or via email at davidhei@nova.edu.
