SHSS Alum Publishes Book on Innovative Group Psychotherapy Work

Celia Quintas, Ph.D.

Celia Quintas, Ph.D.

Celia Quintas, Ph.D. a graduate of the doctoral program in the Department of Family Therapy (DFT) in NSU’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences has published her first book on her innovative group psychotherapy work. The book, Ohana and the Creation of a Therapeutic Community, was published as part of the Taos Institute’s WorldShare Book series whose books are selected by an international editorial board. Quintas’ book was based on the innovative research she conducted on her creative group psychotherapy work with individuals who have been considered chronically mentally ill in an outpatient hospital setting. Incorporating post-modern, appreciative, and social construction ideas, Quintas and her group members collaboratively created Ohana–a respectful therapeutic environment embodying solidarity, compassion, and dignity.

In addition to her doctoral degree in Family Therapy, Quintas earned an M.S. in Mental Health Counseling and an M.Ed. in Education from NSU. She is currently in private practice. Ohana and the Creation of a Therapeutic Community can be downloaded free of charge at http://www.taosinstitute.net/worldshare-books
