Sherman Library to Host Super Saturday featuring musicians Donna Wissinger & Joy Myers, June 22

The Alvin Sherman Library will host a Super Saturday event, featuring Donna Wissinger & Joy Myers: An American Tapestry at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 22. This event, which is for ages 5 & up, will be held at the Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center on NSU’s main campus. This program is made possible by a gift from the Charles P. Ferro Foundation.

This multi-media musical concert for both children and adults features live performances of pieces by George Gershwin, Aaron Copland, John Philip Sousa, and other influential American composers. In addition to receiving an up-close, personal experience with classical music, patrons will enjoy the stories behind such famous songs as The Entertainer, Summertime, and Stars and Stripes Forever and American painters such as Winslow Homer.

Donna Wissinger has been hailed as “a flutist of rare gifts” by the New York Times. Her acclaimed solo recitals include the main stages of Carnegie Hall and the renowned Glinka Capella as well as concert tours of Europe, the USA, and Asia. Wissinger attended the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.

Joy Myers has been a pianist with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, Jacksonville Lyric Opera Theater, Starlight Symphonette (where she was guest soloist several times), Amadeus Trio of Jacksonville, St. Augustine Continental Strings, and the Palm Court Society Orchestra. Myers plays the viola and the accordion professionally, and is also an accomplished percussionist.
