A group of elementary schoolchildren from the Florence A. DeGeorge Boys & Girls Club in Davie visited the College of Dental Medicine on March 26 to thank Dean Robert Uchin, D.D.S,. and his staff for providing them with free dental services during the college’s annual Give Kids a Smile event. The children presented the dean with a giant homemade thank-you card with all their signatures.

The event provided up to 100 children with services such as X-rays, exams, cleaning, prophylaxis, fluoride treatment, sealants, and restorations. The children were referred to the College of Dental Medicine from the Boys & Girls Club, local elementary schools, and churches. It was held in February at the NSU Health Care Centers’ dental clinic, located at the corner of 30th Street and University Drive.

Give Kids a Smile is an annual national event sponsored by the American Dental Association. The idea is to provide free dental care to children that do not have dental insurance or Medicaid.

Last year, NSU’s College of Dental Medicine provided $125,000 worth of dental care to the children.
